Almost 50% of independent voters and some Republicans, according to a recent poll, want Donald Trump to withdraw from the presidential race.
A Friday Morningside Consult survey, Trump should withdraw his 2024 campaign because to his felony conviction, according to 59% of independent voters and 15% of Republican voters. Only 8% of Trump’s fans, though, expressed a desire for his campaign to conclude. Additionally, their poll showed that 54% of voters support the historic ruling.
As part of an election plot, Trump was found guilty on Thursday by a Manhattan jury of 34 counts of falsifying business records. This conspiracy included the concealment of a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, whose allegations of an affair threatened to sink his candidacy in 2016.
A few days prior to the Republican National Convention, where Trump is expected to be officially announced as the party’s presidential nominee, he will be sentenced on July 11.
Half of respondents, according to the same poll, are against Trump getting a prison term. The Morningside Consult poll indicates that 69% of people believe Judge Juan Merchan should impose a fine, while 49% believe he should be placed on probation.
On Friday, President Joe Biden made remarks regarding the conviction, criticizing his “reckless” assaults on the trial and maintaining that the decision is proof positive that the legal system functions.
He stated that “Donald Trump was given every opportunity to defend himself” and that the case against him was heard in a state court rather than a federal one. The jury, which was selected “the same way every jury in America is chosen,” was made up of “12 citizens, 12 Americans, and 12 people like you.”
In the wake of his conviction, some of Trump’s ardent supporters are inciting violence online.
“track down the jurors.” Every single one of them. On a message board centered around Trump, a user said, “Take no prisoners.“
Another said, obviously referring to lynchings: “Just give them the rope. “The time for talking has long gone. Let them swing outside the courthouse.”
A number of well-known Republicans have also declined to recognize the decision, referring to it as “corrupt” and “rigged.”
